Childbirth Classes
Has anyone taken a child birth class that they like? I am interested in a class to just prepare me for what the experience will be like even though I intend to get an epidural and have the baby in a hospital. How are the classes given at the various Boston area hospitals? Isis Maternity? Do you recommend the one day class? I see there are also 6 week classes. what do you cover in 6 weeks?
I took the one day childbirth class at Mass General and I thought it was terrible. It was 8 hours long and we could have been done in 2 or 3hrs. The only helpful part was the tour of the labor and delivery floor which you can get without taking the class. Even though everyone in the class was 8 or 9 months pregnant we spent time talking about pregnancy nutrition (a little late for that) and going over the development of the baby. The movies they showed were fair. I didn't like how the instructor acted like it was wrong to get an epidural and that it was very unusual. I spoke to some of the other women in the class during the break and almost everyone in the class said they intended to have an epidural. I took the class because I felt like I had to but I found it to be a waste of time and gained better information from reading my pregnancy books. I am curious to hear if the classes at other places are better.
