GETTING STARTED AT BOSTON PARENTS WIKI
It's easy to get going right away. And we hope you do!
Writing and Editing
You already know most of what you need to know. If you want to begin writing or editing, just click on the "Edit Page" buttons located near the top and bottom of each page. (At this point, you can only edit by entering Boston Parents Wiki through the link you have been sent by email.)
You can also edit pages by clicking on the "Edit Page" buttons and then make cuts or alterations in the text.
If you want to see your writing or changes click on the "Preview" button at the bottom of the edit-mode page.
When you are ready to save your changes just click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the edit-mode page.
See, that was easy!
If you would like to play around before committing yourself, you can use the Sandbox, an area for experimentation.
But don't be too afraid of making mistakes, it is very easy to fix mistakes or revert to previous versions.
Adding Styles
Several styles familiar from word-processing programs are available when you write and edit pages on Boston Parents Wiki. Once you have moved into the Editing mode (by clicking on the Edit Page button) you can use the buttons at the top of the edit-mode page to add styles like Bold, Italic, Underline, Bullet Points and Numbered Items that you likely know well from Microsoft Word.
Starting a New Page
If you think of something that you don't see on Boston Parents Wiki you can start a new page about it.
There are two ways to start a new page:
1. You can put brackets like this around a word: Example. This will create a new page named after the word in the brackets. In our example, this will create a new page titled "Example". This is probably the easiest way to do it.
2. You can also use just type multiple words together without any spaces between them. For example, typing ExampleTwo will create a page title "Example Two". This style is often referred to as CamelCase because it creates humps in words like the humps of a camel. Because using the bracket format described in 1. above leads to language that appears more typical of everyday life (Example Two rather than ExampleTwo) we prefer using brackets to start new pages. In addition, as with the various versions of Example Two pages, it is possible to create multiple versions on the same topic.
